Trail Guide   

A failed housing development on the banks of the Lamprey has been donated to the town and turned into a town woodland with a half-mile long loop trail. This property offers great views back across the Lamprey to the mills and the waterfront in the center of Newmarket. A striking deck and boardwalk, left over from the original development scheme, is built into the hillside leading down to the river.

A trail leads around the river's edge to the end of the property and then circles back through the woods to the parking lot. It's a half-hour's walk at a stroll.

   Driving Directions   

  • Take Rt. 108 to Newmarket, and look for Bay Road, which comes in just after the Lamprey River on the right if you're headed north, or on the left, shortly after the Getty Station, if you're driving south.
  • Take Bay Road about a quarter mile, and as it starts uphill, look for the entrance to a mobile home park on your right.
  • Drive into the park, and the entrance to Heron Point is six lots into the park on your right.
  • A parking lot lies at the end of a short dirt access road.
